Our robotics team mentors Johns Creek Elementary School's FLL team. We send members almost every Tuesday to aid them in designing, building, and programming their robots. Their first competition is... hosted by to Forsyth Alliance at our High School, on December 3rd.
Our school hosts a club promotional event called Club Blitz, where different clubs can set up a table to show the club to new students. We take advantage of this opportunity by setting up a booth for robotics... to garner interest, and a sign-up sheet so that we can contact those interested about our "kick-off" meeting.
Two of our members were sent to promote the robot, shortly after our hub competition, at Dave's Creek Elementary School's science night.
Our robotics teams ran a summer camp for elementary students to both raise funds and help foster interest in robotics for young students. The camp was a week long and used the VEX IQ platform.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Our advisor is the head of the Forsyth Alliance, a community of robotics teams working together to get kids excited about STEM as a career path and a passion. The Forsyth Alliance serves as an umbrella that encourages and fosters robotics programs in every school in Forsyth County, but also throughout the state.
Our company gives back and reaches out to the community in several ways. This past summer, we helped run a Vex IQ summer camp for elementary school students to help raise money and promote robotics to young children. We mentor a elementary school's First Lego League (FLL) team every available Tuesday afternoon. We also brought our robot, a week after our hub competition, to the Science Night of another elementary school to further promote STEM to young children. While crucial, our outreach is not limited to young children; we also promote within our own high school to recruit more members. Our mentor is also head of the Forsyth Alliance, an organization that encourages, fosters, and partly funds robotics programs at every school in Forsyth County. It further promotes STEM statewide by hosting both a FLL competition and a VEX competition at our school.
